UPE is an international honors society that was created at Texas A&M in 1967 for students in the Computing and Information disciplines. There are now over 300 chapters across the world, and they have awarded more than 500,000 dollars in scholarships and awards to students since 2014. This is the only honors society for these disciplines and is recognized by both ACM and IEEE-CS. This is the key that is part of the UPE logo. The Greek symbol on the right is Upsilon which is the first letter of the greek word for computer. The symbol in the middle is Pi, which is the first letter in the greek word for information. The last symbol is Epsilon, and that is the first letter in the greek word for science. The binary number across the bottom of the key is 11110101111 which is the number 1967 for the year that UPE was founded.
Each spring, the Baldwin Wallace chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon inducts new members. In order to qualify, students must have completed at least 64 undergraduate credit hours, have a GPA of at least 3.5 in computer science or computer information system courses, and rank in the top third of all students in the computer science or computer information systems programs.
